Only 560-some words today, but my first card draws. Interesting system! I wound up asking a Discord server I'm on for help coming up with the new ability, and they're still at suggesting more. This is the second time I've asked them for help coming up with an idea for an RPG, and they love the game.

Well, it's been a busy few days! Old Sam must have spread the word quickly, I've met so many people already. And tomorrow I'm having the housewarming they offered me, a little later than I suggested to Old Sam.
On the 22nd, a couple named Tom and Deborah brought me what is possibly my new favorite food: key lime pie. Sweet and tart and smooth, and so very good! Deborah was kind enough to give me the recipe. I'll put it down here, as well as adding it to my recipe book.
3 egg yolks
1 12oz can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup key lime juice
In a pie plate, make a graham cracker crust, and bake it in amedium oven for 15 minutes. While it's baking, mix the other ingedients together until very smooth. Allow the pie crust to cool, then pour the filling in. Bake another 15 minutes. Chill in the icebox.
Also, when I went outside, I found a pint bottle of the local hooch, which I assume to be white rum.
Wednesday was the 23rd, and, well, I seem to have discovered a new talent. Well, not "new," I've always had it, I suppose. But I didn't realize it.
I knew I had a good sense of direction, but I'd lived on the same mountain all my life, and never been further than Chattanooga. I just thought I knew where things were. It turns out, I don't just have a good sense of direction, I have a perfect sense for the cardinal directions. A fishing boat captain, Jake, was in town while I was doing a little shopping, and someone asked him for due north (I missed why). While he was still getting out his pocket compass, I pointed it out without stopping to think. The Captain looked at me a little oddly, and checked my pointing against the compass, and my aim was true. He tells me that's very unusual for a newcomer to be able to do, especially at midday, as it was. We did a few tests, blindfolding and spinning me, and I was able to point NEWS every time, but not other directions. Most interesting! I will have to pay attention to this.
I spent all day Thursday putting the small things in order and looking through Abigail's books. That night, I headed down the ladder for the outhouse before bed, and was surprised to see the most enormous turtle I've ever seen flippering its way up the beach in the moonlight! I stopped to watch it for a bit, before the call of nature demanded my attention. She -- as it turned out -- was still there when I came back out, digging a hole. I sat down on the sand and watched for two hours as she dug a hole and began to lay eggs. It must have been 80 or 90! Finally, she covered the nest and smoothed the sand, then headed back out into the water. Amazing. I marked the spot with stakes so I can keep an eye on it. I'll have to ask around about these.
Today, walking along the beach, I found a beautiful brass oil lantern half-buried in the sand, with the most lovely chasing around the base and top. I'll have to take it into town with me and see if anyone's lost it.
That key lime pie recipe is one I've used for years, btw, including in my restaurant, and it gets a lot of love! Always prebake the crust, even a storebought crust, to keep it from going soggy, though. If you can't get fresh key limes, use Nellie and Joe's Key West Lime Juice.
